EN 10243-1 Standard: Dimensional Tolerances for Steel Stamped Forgings from EV Group China

Technical Regulations and Scope of the EN 10243-1 Standard

The European standard EN 10243-1 establishes strict tolerances for the geometric parameters of steel forgings manufactured by hot stamping on vertical presses and specialized forging equipment. EV Group China provides expert support for compliance with these standards when ordering metal products.

The first part of the standard applies to hot-deformed forgings made of carbon and alloy steels. The regulation covers products weighing up to 250 kg or with an overall length of up to 2,500 mm. For large-sized or ultra-heavy forgings, tolerances are negotiated individually upon order placement. The standard does not apply to forgings produced on horizontal forging machines, which are regulated by the requirements of EN 10243-2.

Classification of Stamped Forging Accuracy

To ensure design flexibility and production cost-efficiency, the EN 10243-1 standard distinguishes two main accuracy classes:

  • Class F: provides standard accuracy, optimal for most industrial tasks when using typical press equipment.
  • Class E: regulates increased dimensional accuracy requirements. It is recommended to apply this class only to critical product elements to optimize production costs.

Tolerance values are based on the R20 decimal-logarithmic series according to ISO 3. Appendix A of the standard provides engineering cases for the application of these tolerances for various closed-die forging configurations.

Special Conditions and Limitations

In cases of manufacturing products with complex geometric shapes or using low-ductility steels that require extended tolerances, parameters are negotiated additionally. It is important to note that the standard does not cover specifications for precision products (above Class E). Achieving such characteristics requires the use of additional technological operations, including cold or hot coining, as well as specialized finishing, which EV Group China experts are ready to implement according to your technical specifications.
