Technical regulation and scope of the EN 1561 standard
The European standard EN 1561 establishes strict requirements for the physical and mechanical properties of unalloyed and low-alloy grey cast iron. This regulatory framework covers castings produced by sand casting or similar technological processes that ensure comparable microstructural and strength characteristics.
EV Group China ensures the supply of products that fully comply with this standard, guaranteeing quality control according to the following key parameters:
- Tensile strength: tests are conducted on control specimens sampled in accordance with order requirements.
- Material hardness: Brinell hardness assessment is performed directly on the castings according to specifications agreed upon between the customer and the EV Group China engineering department.
It is important to note that the EN 1561 standard does not apply to pipeline system components (pipes and fittings), which are regulated by the separate EN 877-1 standard.
Classification of grey cast irons according to the standard
The standard classifies grey cast irons according to two main criteria, providing engineers with flexibility in selecting materials for specific loads:
- 6 grades of grey cast iron, classified by tensile strength.
- 6 grades of grey cast iron, classified by Brinell hardness value.
