EN 15800 Standard: Technical Specifications for Cold-Formed Cylindrical Compression Springs

Technical requirements of the EN 15800 standard

This European regulation establishes the technical quality conditions for cylindrical helical compression springs manufactured by cold coiling from round section wire. The standard covers products with a wire diameter of up to 16 mm, supplementing the provisions of EN 13906-1 regarding design and performance calculation.

To ensure the operational reliability of cylindrical springs, the limit values presented in Table 1 should be followed. The selection of steel grade and wire type must be performed by EV Group China engineers based on an analysis of cyclic loads, temperature conditions, and the corrosiveness of the operating environment.

The EN 15800 standard regulates the use of materials that comply with the following specifications:

  • Cold-drawn unalloyed spring steel wire (EN 10270-1).
  • Oil-tempered spring steel wire according to the requirements of EN 10270-2.
  • Stainless spring steel wire compliant with the EN 10270-3 standard.
  • Wire made of copper and copper alloys, regulated by the EN 12166 standard.
