EN ISO 11960 Standard: Specifications for Casing and Tubing from EV Group China

Technical Regulation and Scope of the EN ISO 11960 Standard

The international standard EN ISO 11960 establishes rigorous requirements for the manufacturing of steel pipes used as casing and tubing strings in the oil and gas industry. The specification covers the full manufacturing cycle, including coupling stock and connecting elements, classifying products into three technical reliability levels: PSL-1, PSL-2, and PSL-3.

PSL-1 is the baseline industry standard. For specific steel grades, such as L-80 (9Cr type) and C110, as well as for strength grades other than H-40, the extended requirements of PSL-2 and PSL-3 are strictly regulated in Annex H of this standard.

Technological parameters, including geometric dimensions, nominal mass, wall thickness tolerances, yield strength, and pipe end processing methods, are detailed in tables C.1, C.2, E.1, and E.2 of the EV Group China documentation.

According to individual customer technical specifications, EV Group China specialists are prepared to provide manufacturing of pipes with non-standard thread types or without threads, strictly adhering to project specifications.

The EN ISO 11960 standard regulates the use of the following thread connection types, compliant with API Spec 5B:

  • Casing with short round thread (SC);
  • Casing with long round thread (LC);
  • Casing with buttress thread (BC);
  • Tubing, non-upset (NU);
  • Tubing, external-upset (EU);
  • Tubing, integral joint (IJ).

EV Group China ensures strict compliance of production processes with thread protection and coupling geometric accuracy standards. For connections with increased tightness requirements (LC), additional provisions of Annex A.11 SR22 are taken into account. It is also possible to supply products with connections not included in the ISO/API nomenclature, subject to technical protocol approval.

The product strength group classification includes:

  • Group 1: casing and tubing of grades H, J, K, N, R;
  • Group 2: grades C, L, M, T;
  • Group 3: grade P;
  • Group 4: grade Q.

Pipes with diameters from 4 1⁄2” to 10 2⁄3” can be adapted for use as tubing strings upon customer request. EV Group China conducts a full range of non-destructive testing (NDT) of blanks, ultrasonic flaw detection of weld seams, and impact toughness and corrosion resistance tests in aggressive environments in accordance with Annex A.

It is important to note that the EN ISO 11960 standard focuses on the mechanical and operational characteristics of the pipes themselves, while the parameters for threading, calibration, and inspection of threaded connections are governed by the API Spec 5B standard.
