Scope of the ISO 15848-1 standard
The international standard ISO 15848-1 regulates methods for conducting qualification tests of isolation valves for fugitive emissions. The methodology is aimed at assessing the permeability of stem (shaft) seals and valve body connections operated in environments with high concentrations of volatile organic compounds and hazardous chemicals. EV Group China recommends using the standard’s requirements to verify design solutions in the oil, gas, and chemical industries. It is important to note that these methods do not apply to vacuum equipment, nor to systems operating under radiation exposure or extreme corrosive conditions.
The first part of the ISO 15848 standard establishes a strict classification system and algorithms for type testing, allowing for the confirmation of valve compliance with environmental standards for limiting uncontrolled emissions.
Regulatory framework and reference documents
For the correct implementation of the procedures described in this standard, EV Group China specialists rely on the following international documents:
- ISO 5208: Industrial valves — pressure testing regulations.
- EN 13185:2001: Non-destructive testing — leak testing, tracer gas method.
