ISO 8839: Mechanical properties of non-ferrous metal fasteners: bolts, screws, and nuts

Technical specifications and scope of fasteners according to ISO 8839

The international standard ISO 8839 establishes requirements for the mechanical properties of general-purpose fasteners, including bolts, screws, studs, and nuts made of non-ferrous metals and their alloys. Engineers at EV Group China use this regulation to ensure the reliability of connections in high-precision instrumentation and power engineering projects.

Main fastener parameters according to ISO 8839:

  • Nominal thread diameter range (d): from M1.6 to M39.
  • Metric thread type: ISO standard (according to ISO 231).
  • Materials: pure copper and copper alloys, technical aluminum and aluminum alloys.

It should be noted that the ISO 8839 standard does not establish requirements for the following performance characteristics:

  • Specific corrosion resistance in aggressive environments.
  • Normalized electrical conductivity values of the material.

Currently, the provisions of the ISO 8839:1986 standard have been integrated into the European specification EN 28839, which is the current basis for designing components made of non-ferrous metals. Specialists at EV Group China are ready to provide expert consultation on selecting fasteners according to your technical specifications.
